Tallinn Photmonth presents Where You End, I Begin at Tartu Art Hall. Curated by Anneli Porri, the exhibition offer a perspective on Estonian contemporary photographic art, focusing on space and the perception of environment.

A photograph together with it’s subject helps to interpret a politically, socially and experiencially changing environment. “A photographer may either be an observer or an interferer, someone who creates or makes visible the relationships and interactions between a person and the environment,” said curator Anneli Porri. “On the one hand, the subject defines the surrounding environment, but on the other hand, the environment creates the subject, lending meaning and history.”

The exhibition encompasses a slice of Estonian photographic art from 1992 to 2013 and is divided into sub-themes: political and ideological space, personal space, photographic space and transcendent space.

Where You End, I Begin borrows its title from Helen Melesk’s series of photographs exploring spatial behaviour in daily situations.
